Pre School
The Pre School children are constantly encountering new fun and exciting experiences here at Scallywags Childcare Centre. We have two large Pre School rooms that join via central double doors, our Bees and Bears Pre School rooms share the same Scallywags learning and care experience.
A day in Pre School
Our Pre School day is hard to put into words, its ever changing! The children have countless opportunities to freely access and lead their own learning experience, choosing from an enormous range of natural and open-ended resources, building materials, small word animals and figures, self-accessing paint, dough, sand, water and craft stations as well as stories and games and that is just inside, wait until you see outside!
Our outside area is like no other. The Pre School children have free flow access to a sensory garden and our huge playground, here they can learn and play in all weathers, exploring our sensory areas and bug hotels, accessing outdoor mark making, digging at the ‘Scallywags beach’ (our huge sandpit), building a den in our construction area, whizzing round on the bikes and so much more to explore.
Our team of educators are always on hand, using a Key Person approach to help each child develop and learn, encouraging their play, demonstrating new ideas, going on walks around the local area and joining in with all activities.
'Big School'
Whilst having the best time possible at Scallywags, the children are always preparing for the transition over to 'Big School'. Scallywags share strong links with all of the local Primary Schools, the teachers from each school visit Scallywags in their final term to begin building that relationship.
School based activities and learning opportunities take place within the room, including going on walks to local schools, school related social stories, encouraging self-care and self-registration and exploring school uniforms and of course, preperation for a Scallywags Graduation Ceremony.
When the time arrives for your child to leave Scallywags and begin their adventure to “Big School”, a detailed transition process will take place and our Educators will have done everything possible to prepare them for the transition.
A local school stated that they can always tell when a child has attended Scallywags, and that really means a lot to us!
