Terms & Conditions

  • CHILD CARE CENTRE PLACES AND BOOKINGS

Scallywags must receive a signed and fully completed booking form before a place can be considered.  Bookings are made on either a “Term Time Only” basis (place is booked and full fees are charged for during all Dorset County Council Term Times). “School Holidays Only” (place is booked and full fees are charged for during all Dorset County Council school holidays), or an “All Year Round” basis (place is booked and full fees are charged for all sessions, except when Scallywags is closed for bank holidays/ Christmas shut down.

    REGISTRATION FEES

A payment that is equivalent to four weeks’ fees is required upon booking a place.  The place will not be confirmed until those fees are paid.  This is payable at time of registration.  This fee will be credited to the first months’ invoice.

    FEES AND INVOICES

Fees are payable in advance by Direct Debit (separate terms and conditions apply), cash or cheque by the 1st of each month (or at time of booking for late bookings).  We strongly encourage payments by direct debit and discounts will be given for such payments.  An administration cost of £5 will be levied for second set up of direct debits, which have been cancelled.  No charge is made for initial set up costs.

Invoices are distributed either by hand or post before the due date.  If payments are late, are cancelled or returned by the Bank a 10% surcharge will be applied.

Extra sessions or additional charges will be invoiced in arrears according to the date the Child Care Centre was notified except in the case of School Holiday Only bookings, which must be paid for at the time of booking.

Other than if we are in breach of these Terms and Conditions, all sessions booked must be paid for, regardless of whether the child attends. No refunds will be given for sessions missed due to holidays or sickness. Failure to meet payments will result in the termination of the Child Care place and in such circumstances the parents wit not be entitled to a refund of any fees.  In these circumstances, charges will apply during full notice period (see below).  We reserve the right to apply a 10% charge on outstanding fees. We are not liable for collections from third parties, e.g." colleges, grant funding, voucher providers. The parent remains responsible for all outstanding fees. If you default on payment, we reserve the right to carry out a search with a credit reference agency, which we keep a record of that search and may share that information with other businesses.

If you are late collecting your child from Scallywags, a late collection charge of £5 for every 15 minutes may be imposed - this is at the discretion of the Nursery Manager/Director.

Two months notice will be given before any fee increase is implemented.

    NURSERY CLOSURE

Scallywags will be closed between Christmas and New Year (precise dates are confirmed at least two months in advance and notified via newsletter).  Scallywags will also close on all other Bank Holidays.  No charges are made for these days.

    TERMINATION / CANCELLATION / CHANGE

We require one month’s notice, in writing, should you wish to terminate a Child Care place for any reason. Parents still remain liable for fees throughout the notice period. If a parent withdraws their child during this notice period, the fees shall still remain payable. We reserve the right to terminate a Child Care place with two weeks notice if any fees are not paid by the due date, or if a parent, carer or child displays abusive, threatening or otherwise inappropriate behaviour. In all other circumstances we will give you one months' notice, in writing, should we wish to terminate a Child Care place for any reason.

If the parent for any reason postpones a start date, we reserve the right to charge from the original start date stated on the application form unless one months’ notice is given of the change.

If a parent wishes to reduce the number of sessions taken at Scallywags, one months' notice, in writing, must be given.
Increase in sessions must also be notified in writing, and may be carried out at shorter notice.

The swapping of sessions may be permitted within the same week but can only be agreed if staffing ratios allow.  Requests must be put to Manager/ Director.  Other swaps are only permitted on a permanent basis, for which the normal notice period is required

    PERSONAL PROPERTY AND BELONGINGS

We cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to children's property. Every reasonable effort will be made by Scallywags staff to ensure the children's belongings are not lost or damaged.

Practical 'inexpensive' clothing is strongly recommended for children attending Scallywags. It is the parent's responsibility to name and clearly label all items of clothing.

We suggest that all toys, books or other equipment are left at home.

    INSURANCE

We have extensive Insurance cover - Full details of the insurance are available upon request, from the Nursery Manager/ Director.

  • BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

We may require parents to withdraw or remove their child from Scallywags in the event that the Nursery Manager/ Director consider the child to be disruptive or displaying inappropriate behaviour.

We will not tolerate Scallywags staff being treated in an abusive or threatening manner by parents, carers or children. Such behaviour may result in the termination of a place.

    LIABILITY

We accept no responsibility for any loss suffered by parents, arising directly or indirectly, as a result of the Scallywags being temporarily closed or the non-admittance of your child to the Scallywags for any reason, this applies to absence due to sickness, holidays and Bank Holidays. We accept no responsibility for children whilst in their parents care on Scallywags premises, i.e. prior to arrival or after pick up.

We will not be liable to parents and/ or children for any economic loss of any kind, for damage to the child's or parents property, for any loss resulting from a claim made by any third party or for any special, indirect or consequential loss or damage of any kind.

We will make reasonable endeavours to keep parents and / or children's property in good order. Liability for damage of such property is excluded except where caused by our negligence.

    ACCIDENTS AND ILLNESS

We reserve the right to administer basic first aid and treatment when necessary. Parents will be informed of all accidents and will be required to sign an accident form. For accidents of a more serious nature, involving hospital treatment, all attempts will be made by Scallywags to contact the parents but failing this, we are hereby authorised to act on behalf of parents and authorise necessary treatment.

We will administer prescribed medicines if parents complete a 'Medicine Consent’ form; however, the first dose of medicine must be given at home and parents must take all medicines home at the end of each day.

We may require parents to withdraw their child from Scallywags, in the event that they require special medical care or attention, which is not available or refused by parents or it is considered that the child is not well enough to attend Scallywags. We may also ask parents to withdraw their child from Scallywags, if we have reasonable cause to believe that they are or maybe suffering from or has suffered from any contagious disease/infection and there remains a danger that other children at the Child Care Centre may contract such a disease/infection. We accept no responsibility for children contracting contagious diseases/infections. Please refer to our Childhood Illnesses information regarding incubation and exclusion periods. Parents are requested to inform Scallywags if their child is suffering from any illness, sickness or allergies before attending Scallywags.

We have a realistic attitude to the needs of working parents but we reserve the right to contact parents if their child becomes ill during Scallywags hours.

    SECURITY

Under no circumstances will the child be allowed to leave Scallywags with anyone unknown to Child Care Centre staff unless the parent has previously arranged this. If parent has made alternative arrangements by telephone, the Child Care Centre will require the name of the person permitted to collect the child and proof of identity will be required upon arrival at Scallywags. A list of responsible adults who are authorised to collect the child should be given to the Manager.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

Parents are requested to inform Scallywags of any food, medicine, activity or any other circumstances that may cause the child to have a reaction/ allergy. Parents must provide details, in writing, of the severity of the reaction/ allergy and must continue to inform Scallywags of any changes/progress to the condition, in writing, when they become aware. Parents are requested to inform Scallywags of any changes to all information kept at the Child Care Centre.

We may require parents to withdraw or remove their child from Nursery, in the event that the parent is not completely honest about the child's condition or withholds or is found to have withheld important information.

Parents and carers please note attendance at Scallywags does not guarantee your child’s admission to the local primary school. The Local Authority (Dorset County Council) has clear criteria on admission to primary school.
